It’s often been said that where there’s smoke there’s fire. Right now, NBA superstar and Nike signature athlete Ja Morant is standing in such a cloud of smoke that the fire could be big enough to burn his young career to the ground.
Morant made headlines recently for brandishing a handgun while visiting a Denver area strip club but now details of his two-day bender have come out. While the Grizzlies were in town to play the Nuggets Morant and his entourage made 2 visits to Denver strip club Shotgun Willies. According to an article by the NY Post, Ja dropped $50,000 in tips during his whirlwind tour and photos have emerged to show the VIP room of Shotgun Willie’s covered in cash. Seriously, it looks like there is a carpet made of greenbacks.
The leaked images reveal a shirtless Morant enjoying the services of a dark-haired stripper and an impressive spread of food. Glad to see the hooper taking necessary steps to make sure his body was fueled up for the all-night affair. The article states that Morant made 2 separate visits to the club, 1 just after the team plane touched down in Denver and then again just hours after the Grizzlies lost to the Nuggets.
Fresh off the release of his first Nike signature shoe Morant decided to spend some of that shoe deal money by treating himself to a private VIP room session with 4 dancers, bottle service, and the aforementioned food spread of steaks, chicken wings, and french fries. To his credit, Shotgun Willie’s management said Ja behaved like a gentleman and was very respectful towards the dancers and staff. Apparently, they missed the live Instagram post of him flashing his gun inside the club.
If it feels like you’ve heard this story before, it’s because you have. Morant has been no stranger to allegations tied to questionable behavior of late. In just the past few months Ja not only flashed a handgun in public but also thought it wise to broadcast it live for the world to see, admitted to assaulting a minor during a pick-up basketball game, was accused of threatening the security chief of a Memphis area mall, and had his entourage not only confront Indiana Pacers staffers but also aimed a red laser at them. If that weren’t enough, Morant actually tried to fight NFL legend Shannon Sharpe during an actual NBA game. Not sure what Ja was thinking during that altercation, but I really don’t think he wants that smoke.
This pattern of behavior is not sustainable in this day and age. Despite having a 5-year contract worth over $230 million no multibillion-dollar company is going to want to stake their franchise around someone this erratic. Dominoes have already begun to drop on Moran with Coca-Cola scrapping a marketing campaign featuring the Grizzlies star. He’s even been suspended 8 games by his team and the NBA, not sure what more of a wakeup call he needs. Morant needs a teammate like MJ or Kobe to set him straight and keep him on the straight and narrow. For Ja’s sake, I really hope this is just a phase and he comes out of it unscathed because the path that he is on does not lead to a happy place.
