With Jackie Robinson Day just around the corner, Nike is again honoring his legacy through sneakers. As great as #42 was on the field, his legacy has nothing to do with baseball. He broke the "color barrier" in Major League Baseball and is nothing short of an American hero. Past years have brought about multiple Nike silhouettes in his honor, from an Air Griffey Max 1 to an Air Force 1 to Dunk Low. If the craftsmanship and quality of those releases are any indicator of this year, we are in for a real treat with this year's tribute, the Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 "Jackie Robinson."
The Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 " Jackie Robinson" features an upper made of layers of perforated nubuck and smooth suede, both draped in a deep blue reminiscent of L.A. Dodgers uniforms of the Robinson era. The signature Air Max 1 wrap-around mudguard uses contrasting white suede, again staying true to the uniform. A gold-coated "42" adorns the tongue, and a matching dubrae threads through the blue laces. The shoes commemorate this year's Jackie Robinson Day with an embroidered patch on the insole of each shoe.
The Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 "Jackie Robinson" will hit retailers on April 1st, 2024 for $160. The shoes will drop via the SNKRS App and at other select retailers nationwide. Air Max 1 releases have been pretty hot recently, so follow us on Twitter and Instagram to see what's next.
