After being spotted with a gun on Instagram Live for the 2nd time in May, the NBA has issued a 25-game suspension for NBA star, Ja Morant this upcoming 2023-2024 season. In addition to this suspension, the Memphis Grizzlies have suspended Morant from all team activities while the league investigates the situation. Morant will also be required to meet conditions set by the NBA before returning to the court reported by The Athletic. In a statement by Morant, he stated that "I've had time to reflect and I realize how much hurt I've caused. I want to apologize to the NBA, the Grizzlies, my teammates, and the city of Memphis."
Aside from the various incidents from Ja Morant the past year, the NBA has stated that they are in support of his well-being and appreciate his accountability. Despite the statement from Morant, this repeated incident has caused anger from fans, with ESPN's Micahel Wilbon stating that he would purchase Morant's sneakers for his own son, stating "Our money as a family is not going toward that," in an edition of the NBA Countdown.
