By now, news of the RTFKT and Nike project had swept through the sneaker world when LeBron James showed up to a game with a pair of the Air Force 1s on. Now the next evolution is on the horizon as the “Crypto Kicks” forge is underway.
Over the past year, collectors of the RTFKT NFT project minted various forms of tokens that would allow them access to “forge” their digital collectibles into physical sneakers. The general idea for the project is for those who own the NFT to eventually be eligible to claim the sneaker on the NFT in its physical form. A recent tweet from RTFKT makes it clear that those physical kicks may be much closer to release than we think.
The tweet showed an image of the shoe in its development stage, and it looks exactly like the NFT image. The base silhouette is a dunk, but this new evolution looks robotic. Accentuated heels and soles play up the “Crytopkicks” vibe, as the crepes look straight from the future.
There are still no details about release dates. Still, they will be exclusively available to owners of the NFT that participated in the forge event. Many believe that sneakers and releases like this are the future of sneakers, and the Nike x RTFKT project is the cutting edge.
