It's hard to believe that the company that brought you the Air Jordan, the Air Max, and the Air Force 1 is actually looking to innovate. After all, it wasn't that long ago that they brought the mythical robot-like Air Mag to life. In recent years Nike's product line has fallen into a repetitive rut. During the COVID years, they could introduce any Air Jordan Retro they wanted and have it turn to gold, but now they routinely see their stock sit on shelves. While this may be welcomed by the everyday consumer, it can be the kiss of death for a retailer.
Known for their ability to disrupt the industry, the Beaverton brain trust did so again last week with an overhaul in Senior Leadership. The goal is simple, out with the old, in with the new. Nike hopes that some new voices can breathe new life into the brand that revolutionized the sneakers world.
While resale prices may not be a top concern for the Swoosh, many new models resell for less than or close to their retail prices, indicating the current demand for these shoes. The fact is Nike needs something new. They need a product or products that can reignite the fire they're known for. Innovation made the brand the global powerhouse they are today, but past success will only keep them on top for a while.
It's no easy task; they recently thought they were onto something with the Ja 1 line, but now the future of those releases is in jeopardy as their prized pupil finds himself in trouble with the NBA. It could be a new product or a new face of the franchise. One thing is for sure, with the shakeup of the top brass, Nike is staying on the offensive as they look to evolve.
