Lately it seems like you can’t sign on to Instagram without seeing something from the creative minds over at MSCHF. The brand truly has a knack for marketing with their Wavy Baby, Gobstopper, and Satan Shoes all receiving notoriety across social media platforms. While those shoes all did well, the one that will live in infamy is The Big Red Boot.
These gimmick shoes made to look like the ones worn by comic hero Astroboy were everywhere with celebs like Lil Wayne, Ciara, Diplo, and Iggy Azalea giving them a proper pump on their socials. Seth Rollins even put them on to brawl in a WWE match. It now seems that replica factories in China have taken notice of the hype these boots caused and are producing a $5 version of them. A TikTok released by @maxiboy861 shows an overseas factory knocking off the $350 boot for a fraction of the cost. The production line and bins full of the finished product can all be seen in a seperate TikTok video.
MSCHF is no stranger to copyright infringement themselves as the Wavy was clearly a Vans Old Skool knock off and Nike took major offense to the Air Max 97 Satan Shoe. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to find out that the evil geniuses at MSCHF were behind these “leaked” posts themselves.
The Big Red Boots released in February so if you’re still looking for a pair you’ll have to turn to the resell market or see what $5 does for you overseas.
