Update (1/23/23): The Kenzo x ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 will be available via Kenzo on January 23rd and will have a wider release on January 26th. Each of the three shoes in the collection will carry a retail price of $350.
Make no mistake, ASICS is making moves in 2024. The Japanese sneaker giant put the sneaker world on notice in 2023 and took a sizeable slice of the pie from its competitor. They closed out the year strong with their Gallery Department 2160 collaboration and have a cure fire banger on the horizon with the Hidden NY 2 GEL-NYC. They are bringing even more heat with a three-part collection in partnership with Parisian skate shop Kenzo.
Now that Asics has solidified the GEL-Kayano 14 as one of the hottest silhouettes in the sneaker game, they’ve turned their attention to a GEL-Kayano-20 retro. With streetwear legend Nigo standing at the helm of Kenzo, it's hard to imagine a situation with the Kenzo x ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 is anything less than magnificent. The first offering of the collection looks like the official show of the movie Avatar, with a neon blue setting the scene for a faux-fur zebra striping pattern. Bright greens and yellows are highlight pieces for the shoe that sits on top of a vibrant orange midsole.
The second shoe in the collaborative effort is the polar opposite of the first. The shoe's base is a neutral white with alternating greys and blacks to offset the animal print. Last but not least, the Kenzo x ASICS collection is a shoe that features a stained glass window-like pattern using shades of greens, blues, and reds.
The Kenzo x ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 collection has a targeted timeframe for release in Spring 2024. We don't know if all three shoes will be released at the same time or have independent drops via Kenzo and ASICS platforms.
