Update (06/12/23): The Nike Mac Attack “OG” is set to release on Nike.com and Nike Sportswear retailers for $120 on June 23rd.
The Nike Air Mac Attack once ruled tennis courts across the world. The shoe was ahead of its time with not only a mid-ankle cut but also looking more like a basketball shoe than a tennis shoe. Rumors of its return have been circulating for a while but Nike may have set a new standard for an on-foot reveal.
Back in the ’80s, the shoe was designed for the bad boy of tennis himself, John McEnroe. Known for the intensity of his game and his dramatics on the court, Johnny Mac had no problem creating buzz around the shoe back then. It seems only logical that the Swoosh would turn to him again to roll out the retro red carpet for the return of the Nike Air Mac Attack. Few sports are picking up more momentum than pickleball right now, so when McEnroe took the court at the nationally televised Pickle Ball Slam last week Nike pounced on the opportunity. The shoes are excellent, but I definitely wouldn't want any McEnroe smoke on the pickleball court.
When the original badass of sports took the court at the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, FL last week he was laced up in his namesake kicks. The kicks have the familiar mid-cut with grey uppers and contrasting black on the swoosh, toebox, and heel. A white midsole and grey outsole make up the undercarriage of the Retro Mac Attacks.
It seems Nike is prepping the Air Mac Attack for an overhand smash revival as they've previously leaked a Social Status collab and now shown them on foot.
