Nike Pays Homage To Dia de Muertos With The New Somos Familia Collection
We have seen Nike celebrate and pay homage to various underrepresented communities in the sneaker world through various special releases this year and in the past. Nike is celebrating Dia de Muertos by releasing a brand new Somos Familia collection which will showcase 4 brand-new silhouettes of the Dunk High, Air Force 1, Air Max 1, and Air Jordan 1 Zoom, alongside of an apparel collection as well.
The Nike Dunk High PRM Somos Familia will feature a more flamboyant design with vibrant bursts of yellow orche and orange around the midsole, with a textured suede embroidery to complete the look. This design represents salt and water, which are common items at ofrendas.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low '07 LX Somos Familia will feature a tan and light yellow colorway across the sneaker, complemented with a blacked-out sole, and bright red Nike swoosh. This design also features circular shapes across the toebox to symbolize the cycle of life and death.
The Nike Air Max 1 Somos Familia will feature a primary orange upper with slight beige tones on the upper heel, toebox, and sole of the sneaker. This design also features a debossed flower graphic around the mudguard to pay homage to the Mexican tradition as well.
The Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT Somos Familia will feature a premium tan/beige suede upper throughout the sneaker, a vibrant Mexican marigold graphic, and a textured cross-hatched pattern on the collar. This edition is inspired by the traditional candles placed at the ofrendas during Dia de Muertos.
