Update (4/19/23): Official images of the Nike Kobe 4 Protro "Mambacita" have been unveiled ahead of its May 1st release date.
The Nike Kobe 4 Protro is back and better than ever with a brand-new colorway. The "White Gold Emerald" edition of the iconic basketball shoe pays homage to Gigi Bryant, the daughter of the late Lakers legend.
First released in 2008, the Nike Kobe 4 was a game-changer in the world of basketball shoes. Designed by Eric Avar, the shoe was a departure from the high-top basketball silhouettes that were popular at the time and instead featured a mid-cut design that was both sleek and functional. The Kobe 4 quickly became a fan favorite and is still considered one of the best basketball shoes of all time.
Now, the Kobe 4 Protro is back to honor the late Gigi Bryant with a new "White Gold Emerald" colorway. The release incorporates several nods to Mambacita throughout the design. Gigi's nickname is seen featured across the insoles, packaging, heel tab, and lastly on the sneaker's aglets. You can also find Mambacita's jersey number stamped on the heel of the sneaker. The rest of the shoe features bold black Swooshes and a white leather upper accented with metallic gold and plaids. The shoe also features a Zoom Air cushioning system that provides a responsive and comfortable feel, making it perfect for both on and off the court.
The Nike Kobe 4 Protro Gigi is set to release on May 1st, 2023 in honor of Gigi Bryant's birthday at a retail price of $180. The release is expected to hit the Nike SNKRS app with the potential of a release also on the Mambacita website alongside select Nike retailers.
