These days, knocking off other people's sneaker designs has become a common practice. Nike currently has pending copyright infringement suits against BAPE, and Kool Kiy, and now New Balance joins them in court. New Balance filed suit last week against Golden Goose for copying their legendary 990 design.
In the suit, New Balance alleges that the high-end design house deliberately stole their design for the creation of their “Dad-Star”. They even go a step further by claiming that the “Dad Star” is a rip-off as their 990 sneakers are commonly called the Dad Shoe. In the suit, New Balance seeks an injunction to halt Golden Goose from producing and selling the Dad-Star going further.
This lawsuit is a sign of the times, as the Dad Shoe craze has become a full-fledged trend in the sneaker world. The fact that companies are now knocking off Dad Shoes shows their popularity and success. We will be following this and other sneaker-related lawsuits closely, so join us on Twitter and Instagram for updates.
