With the unofficial 4/20 holiday approaching, many footwear brands are revealing their upcoming collections of sneakers that are perfect for both recreational and medicinal users who enjoy partaking in the festivities. While some brands such as Vans and Reebok have taken inspiration from the iconic marijuana leaf, Adidas Originals is looking towards the early harvest season when growers are busy tending to their crops.
Rather than directly referencing the plant, the adidas Originals team has focused on creating sneakers that embody the essence of the harvest season. The collection features earthy tones and materials such as canvas and hemp, giving the shoes a natural and organic feel. The new Adidas Campus 80 sneaker incorporates a unique tear-away base, the upper of the shoe is wrapped in a light brown rolling paper-like material. The perforations on the upper allow for a personalized design experience, as wearers can tear away sections of the paper to create a one-of-a-kind look. The laces and nylon sock liner are dipped in a light cucumber color, complementing the paper wrapping. The sneaker's design is inspired by the blooming buds of the plant, with a bright green patch of undone suede on the shroud that mimics the look of the plant's leaves. The tongue construction, mid-foot stripes, and heel tab are all made of color-matched nubuck, adding to the shoe's cohesive design. To set the shoe apart even further from the crowd, a psychedelic tie-dye treatment covers the undersides of the sidewalls and tongue construction. The pair is stitched together and completed by a off-white rubber midsole and matching outsole.
The Adidas Campus 80 Croptober is expected to release on April 20th, 2023, on Adidas.com and select Adidas retailers.
