eBay has recently announced “The ’85 Shop” in Chicago, a special installation dedicated to celebrating the Air Jordan 1. The installation was curated in partnership with some of eBay’s top sneaker sellers, including Jordan Geller of ShoeZeum and SoleStage.
The Air Jordan 1 is a shoe that has left an indelible mark on the world of sneakers. The legacy of Michael Jordan and the AJ1 helped to elevate the sneaker industry to the heights it enjoys today. According to Garry Thaniel, Global GM of Sneakers at eBay, “The Air Jordan 1 changed the shoe game forever and ushered in the modern era of sneaker culture.”
“The ’85 Shop” is eBay’s way of honoring the Air Jordan 1 and its cultural birthplace in Chicago. The installation features a comprehensive collection of original Air Jordan 1s in every colorway, as well as a never-before-released Air Jordan 1 sample and other classic basketball sneakers of the era, such as the PUMA Clyde and adidas Forum. The shop has three offerings: online auction, in-store inventory, and display only.
The online auction includes a lot collection composed of 20 pairs of original 1985 Air Jordan 1 in every iteration/colorway; an unreleased 1985 Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” sample; numerous pairs of vintage, original Nikes from the era used in the production of the movie Air; game-worn PUMA Clydes from Wes Matthews; game-worn adidas Forum High from Alex English; and a white & red Converse One Star. The in-store inventory, curated by SoleStage, includes a variety of sought-after Air Jordan 1s, such as the “Lost and Found” Air Jordan 1 High OGs, the OFF-WHITE x Air Jordan 1 High OG “UNC” colorway, and Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low in the “Reverse Mocha” and “Phantom” colorways. The displayed shoes consist of 20 pairs of unique variations of the Air Jordan 1 High “Chicago” colorway, including the original 1985 release, Spider-Man Origin Story, OFF-WHITE x Air Jordan 1 High OG “Chicago” colorway, football cleats, and more.
Those interested in visiting “The ’85 Shop” can do so on April 6th and April 7th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT at 1045 W Fulton Market in Chicago. The 10-day online auction will start on April 5th at 11 a.m. CT at ebay.com/the85shop. Shoezeum and SoleStage will also go live on eBay from the store starting at 8 p.m. CT on April 6th, allowing sneakerheads from around the world to shop the collection.
As Thaniel notes, “eBay has played an integral part in the growth of sneaker culture for nearly three decades, and we look forward to pouring our energy and passion into continuing that growth for the next thirty years and beyond.” With “The ’85 Shop,” eBay has created an experience unlike any other, offering sneakerheads the chance to own a piece of history and celebrate the Air Jordan 1 and its cultural impact.
