1985 was a special year in the sneaker world as it marked the arrival of the Nike Air Jordan 1. One could even say that 1985 was the year when sneaker culture was born. Even though its initial release was nearly 40 years ago, the Air Jordan 1 still reigns supreme as the most popular shoe amongst sneakerheads. The Air Jordan 1 has gone through a few, albeit subtle, versions with different materials and structures but the overall vision is still nearly identical. In recent years the Jordan Brand has paid homage to the original 1985 cut with re-releases of some of the OG colorways. First, it was the Bred, then Neutral Grey, Georgetown, Twist, and now the Metallic Red.
The Air Jordan 1 High '85 Metallic Red is pretty simplistic in design. The shoe features an all-white upper and has highlights of red on the outsole, collar, swoosh, and tongue tag. In addition to the bright red color, the swoosh and color have a metallic finish that brings a special shine to the shoe. In general, the ‘85 models have a narrower cut and are made of leather that is a little stiffer than what we see on the current Retro models. An exhibit of the entire ‘85 collection was actually just held in Chicago if you were lucky enough to catch it.
As for now, all we have is a mock-up of the shoe based on the original release and rumored release of Spring 2024. When the release does come, you can expect to see it drop on the SNKRS App and select other retailers nationwide. Be sure to keep it locked right for all the updates on the Air Jordan 1 High 85 Metallic Red.
