The Nike Kobe 3 Protro "Orca" Releases September 2026

Nike is bringing back one of the Kobe 3's earliest colorways with the Protro "Orca," a black-based build that first appeared during the shoe's original run and has since built a quiet following among longtime Kobe collectors. The return feels timely, arriving as Nike continues to expand its focus on the mid-top Kobe 3 after spending much of the past year spotlighting the redesigned Low version.

The upper is constructed in a diamond-patterned material and dressed almost entirely in black, a color blocking choice that keeps the design intentionally dark and understated. Canyon Gold detailing runs through the center of the shoe, adding just enough contrast to break up the monochromatic base without pulling attention away from the overall silhouette. A Varsity Purple Swoosh provides additional separation and nods to the Lakers palette that defined so much of Kobe Bryant's legacy. The colorway carries added weight given its connection to the 2007-08 season, when Bryant wore the Kobe 3 during his NBA MVP campaign, a year that also included All-NBA and All-Defensive honors and a trip to the Finals. PJ Tucker helped put the original "Orca" back in front of fans by wearing it during the 2024 NBA season, building anticipation well ahead of its official Protro return.
