Who would have thought that a kid from Philly who grew up in Italy would have his own commemorative LA Dodgers jersey? However, when you’re one of the greatest basketball players of all time, an icon of a mega-market metropolis, and a legend taken from this world way too early, you could ask what took so long.
The LA Dodgers announced that on September 1st, they will host a special giveaway for fans in attendance when they take on the Atlanta Braves. The promotion is part of the annual “Lakers Night” at Chavez Ravine, and a fireworks display will be held directly after the game. The Black Mamba-themed jersey will come in black with a snakeskin print and gold trim. The jersey will also have the number 8 on the front and 24 on the back, paying homage to both numbers Kobe wore during his hall-of-fame career.
Nike will also honor Bryant by relaunching his sneaker line on 8/24, Kobe Bryant Day (August 24th). Details about Kobe's signature sneaker releases are starting to pour in, so stay tuned to our Twitter and Instagram for all the updates.
