Despite constant efforts to revitalize the Air Jordan 2 over the past few years, Nike has had little to no success in generating hype around the silhouette. The Swoosh has literally thrown the entire playbook at the 2, from releasing the OG Chicago colorway to low-top models to a J Balvin collab. They even called on the collaboration design gods of Union and A Ma Maniere but nothing has worked.
Now it looks like they’re resorting to a mash-up. Jordan brand VP Gentry Humphrey was recently seen wearing a Jordan 2/3 hybrid shoe. The shoe appears to have the heel and height of Jordan 2 but the forefoot and midsole of a Jordan 3. I’m not sure who decided that the 2/3 hybrid should be a thing, but they were wrong. Sorely mistaken in fact. This shoe should have been left on the design room floor.
Let’s not forget that Michael Jordan himself threatened to leave Nike after the Jordan 2. Thankfully, Nike introduced MJ and the rest of the world to some guy named Tinker Hatfield who took over as head designer for the Air Jordan line.
Perhaps it's time to stop with the Jordan 2. Not only did the 2 almost cost Nike its most successful product line, but they’ve also run every play in the book at it. It’s not working, it won't work, so please just stop. Not every silhouette can be a banger, just take it on the chin and move on.
I seriously hope this pair doesn’t release, but anything is possible. As always, connect with us on Instagram and Twitter to stay updated on all the latest information on sneakers, clothing, and collectibles.
