Jordan Brand, in association with the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, has teamed up with Sotheby's to auction 23 pairs of this Air Jordan 13. Created in 2017 in celebration of The Notorious B.I.G.'s 45th birthday, the sneakers were withheld from the public until earlier this week.
2023 is a big year for Jordan Brand, and what better way to commence “Jordan Year” than to release one of the most limited sneakers we’ve seen in a while. Recognizing the 50th anniversary of hip hop, arguably the greatest rapper to ever exist, and Brooklyn, the sneakers most notably feature Biggie Small’s silhouette on the front side of the tongue. With odes blended meticulously throughout, the size tabs have been replaced with “It was all a dream” and “If you don’t know, now you know.” on the right and left, respectively. Black anthracite mesh and suede uppers paired with a black midsole and sole combo speak to the pair's deep meaning of self-belief. The inner sock lining and the insole are equipped with a black and red flannel pattern with Biggie’s branded signature. Aluminum aglets have been fitted with the insignia “dream” spelled out in red. It’s little details like these that make the shoe a true marvel when it comes to exclusive kicks.
The Sotheby's auction ends February 3, 2023, at 2:42 P.M. EST. All proceeds will go to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, which serves as a vehicle for giving back to the community. The foundation's mission is “Books instead of guns.” which inspires inner-city young men and women to think B.I.G.
