The console gaming industry has been thwarted by resellers and enthusiasts alike since its original release in November 2020. Getting your hands on one of these consoles seemed like a near impossible task. Now, in 2023 the process of getting one of these consoles has become a much more leisurely task. With much more availability everywhere.
In a recently published article by Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls, it has been estimated that Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S has sold 18.5 million units vs Sony's PS5 which has sold a whopping 30 million in 2022. Harding-Rolls also predicts this gap to increase during the first quarter of 2023, as the Xbox X appears to still be in shortage. As availability continues to increase, it will be interesting to see the results of a YTD comparison between Xbox and PS5 during the 2023 year.
