An Estimated 18.5 Million Xbox X/S Sales vs 30 Million PS5 Sales

The console gaming industry has been thwarted by resellers and enthusiasts alike since its original release in November 2020. Getting your hands on one of these consoles seemed like a near impossible task. Now, in 2023 the process of getting one of these consoles has become a much more leisurely task. In a recently published article by Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls, it has been estimated that Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S has sold 18.5 million units vs Sony's PS5 which has sold a whopping 30 million in 2022. Harding-Rolls also predicts this gap to increase during the first quarter of 2023, as the Xbox X appears to still be in shortage. As availability continues to increase, it will be interesting to see the results of a YTD comparison between Xbox and PS5 during the 2023 year.
