Update (4/11/24): Take a first in-hand look at the upcoming Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Barons" via @sharkicks1. An official release date has also been set for July 13th, 2024 and will retail for $140.
When Michael hung up his Jordans in 1993, he didn't give up sports altogether. He endeavored to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a professional baseball player. He signed with the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, and wore the number 45 for the first time. His career on the diamond was short-lived. MJ barely notched a batting average of .200, but his time with the Barons will forever live in infamy.
Like the Chicago White Sox, the Barons had simple uniform with black, white, and grey as the primary colors. Even though he never really mastered hitting a curveball, he was still the face of Nike and the Jordan brand. Naturally, the brand seized the opportunity and made the Barons' color palette a recurring colorway for future Air Jordans.
The Air Jordan 1 Low OG "Barons" is next up in a long line of shoes that honor MJ's baseball career and are rumored to be released in the Summer of 2024. The "Barons" will feature the same colorblocking of their high-top predecessor with a white base leather, black tips, and medial supports, grey heel caps, and a black swoosh (also known as the standard "Black Toe" colorblocking in Jordan terms).
The Air Jordan 1 Low OG "Barons" is set to be released on July 20th, 2024 and should carry the usual $140 that comes with OG Lows. The shoes will drop via the SNKRS App and at other select retailers.
