The adidas BB.01 "Solar Red/Orbit Grey" Releases July 2026

adidas is taking its 3D-printing program to the hardwood with the BB.01, the brand's first basketball shoe built around additive manufacturing. Part of Project R.A.P. (Radical Athlete Perception), a performance initiative that uses 3D printing to engineer sport-specific footwear from the ground up, the BB.01 was first revealed during March Madness and is now confirmed for a July 2026 release in a "Solar Red/Orbit Grey" colorway.

The BB.01's defining feature is its printed midsole, which is engineered to absorb impact while keeping players stable through cuts and landings. Darker sections underfoot map the high-impact zones, giving the tooling a more functional appearance than a conventional foam setup. A 3D-printed cage wraps the exterior of the shoe, featuring an open lattice construction along the sides that provides ventilation while also defining the model's signature look. Inspiration drawn from recent adidas Harden models factors into the design as well, particularly in the padded inner bootie and the molded outer shell. The outsole runs with angled linework for a clean, structured traction pattern. One notable tradeoff is weight: the BB.01 checks in at roughly 15.13 ounces (428 grams), positioning it on the heavier end of today's basketball footwear.
