Remember when KD dropped 36 in the 2012 All-Star game to lead the Western Conference to victory? Yeah, me neither, but you probably remember the kicks he wore during that game. While the NBA All-Star game isn’t exactly known for the high level of competition it saw back in the 90s, it has become the marquee weekend in the basketball sneaker release calendar.
Every year, retailers wait for that weekend to break out new models or bring back timeless retros. At the 2012 All-Star game Nike introduced us to the KD4 Galaxy and Kevin Durant christened them by going on the win MVP honors for the game.
It's now been rumored that the Swoosh will bring back the KD4 Galaxy in 2024. The kicks come dressed in a chrome-coated upper to give the vibe of a NASA Spaceship with a dark grey velcro lockdown strap branded with an orange swoosh. The KDS features galactic prints on the midsole and sock liner while using bright orange to highlight the swoosh and other details. The 2012 model also featured an embroidered KD35 with a unicorn on the tongue to symbolize how unique of a player he is.
I'm sure the 2024 Retro will have some new features and details but you can bet the base package will remain intact. We don’t yet have a date for the re-release but perhaps we’ll see it at next year's All-Star game. Maybe they'll even drop them on the same day as the Nike Air Foamposite Galaxy as a special pack.
